About
Hello!

Rooted Workstation 2019  ︎︎︎ Furniture design ︎︎︎ “There’s no space in here”

I had the opportunity to work with Rooted when they were still slinging plants out of GP-81’s (now) fitness room in Greenpoint, Brooklyn. My first observation was the ever-changing nature of their store layout due mostly to the influx of plant inventory. As things were constantly moving around, I designed and fabricated a mobile storage solution that doubles as a workstation.

The workstation consists of two carts and two steel panels that interlock to create a variety of configurations. The intent was to create a solution flexible enough to meet any of their situational needs whether it be a retail display, repotting station, or a desk.

The main challenge was designing for a space that at times would have as little as 50 sq ft of available floor space. Knowing milk crates would be a critical storage solution, the wooden carts, internal steel frame, and expanded steel panels were sized accordingly to fit 3 in each cart.
